A Better Chance is a college preparatory program that offers a challenging educational opportunity to academically talented, economically disadvantaged minority students who are determined to succeed. Locally, A Better Chance scholars (all male) live in a house in Ardmore and attend Lower Merion High School. There are currently eight scholars and five staff members in residence. The residence was in desperate need of repair and renewal. The team at Nolan stepped up, did the repair work and then painted several common areas throughout the home. All-in- all, Nolan contributed time and talent worth upwards of $6,000, along with a generous paint donation from the good folks at Benjamin Moore.
WHO IT BENEFITS:
A Better Chance in Lower Merion is part of the Community School Program of the national A Better Chance organization. Community School Programs give scholars an opportunity to attend a highly-ranked public school in a suburban setting and are run by a Board of Directors and supported financially by contributions from the community.
WHEN & WHERE:
The work was performed over Christmas week, 2017 at the A Better Chance residence in Ardmore.
This important work is part of Nolan Painting’s Nolan in the Neighborhood community outreach program. Here’s how Melissa Jenkins from A Better Chance summed it up: “We cannot describe the commitment, professionalism, and kindness this company showed us as they worked tirelessly to paint our house in Ardmore, for FREE! They worked non stop for four days, with an amazing team. They treated our job as any other (paid) job, with amazing quality and respect. We cannot recommend them more highly on every level. They even came back (within the hour of a call) a week later to fix a ceiling panel for us (unrelated to their work, just as a nice gesture!).”
