WHAT: Four Mills Barn

The historic Four Mills Barn and Nature Reserve is situated on 53 acres of beautiful wooded trails. The Barn has served as the headquarters of the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association (WVWA) for over three decades. Designed by prominent Philadelphia architect Horace Trumbauer in 1891, the Barn was part of a 93-acre estate originally owned by Charles Bergner of Bergner and Engle Brewing Company. Nolan Painting performed substantial wood replacement and painting throughout the Barn and also provided color consultation to help revitalize the interior and exterior. All-tolled, Nolan contributed $10,000 worth of time and talent to the project.

The Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association (WVWA) was founded in 1957. Its mission is to inspire and engage diverse communities of people to protect, steward and enjoy the land and waterways of the Wissahickon Valley. The Association has preserved and actively maintains nearly 1,300 acres of open space on 12 preserves with 24 miles of trails, monitors water quality, and provides recreational and educational opportunities for people of all ages. WVWA believes that people benefit when nature thrives.

WHEN & WHERE: Four Mills Barn

The work was performed during the month of July 2018. The Four Mills Barn is located on Morris Road in Ambler, Pennsylvania.

This charitable effort is part of Nolan Painting’s Nolan in the Neighborhood community outreach program.  The program is focused on improving the community, particularly in the areas of education, the environment, health and fitness, and local history. The revitalization of the Four Mills Barn aligns with Nolan’s focus on preserving the important gems of our region’s historic treasures.

Says Michaelle Fleisher, Director of Finance & Human Resources at WVWA: “The Nolan team has been a joy to work with, every commitment they have made they have kept. From day one, the entire crew was on time; it is clear that they know how to work as an efficient team, from set up to daily clean up, to keeping us informed on what they are going to do that day.  We have a very old building that cannot handle power washing everywhere, the crew leader quickly adjusted the work plan to hand-scrape sensitive areas.  This was just one of many demonstrations of respect and professionalism we have experienced with Nolan. The team has been friendly to our staff and have often remarked how much they have enjoyed working on such a beautiful building.  The Nolan team clearly takes their work personally; they have treated our headquarters as if they were painting their own home. They did a beautiful job, we can’t recommend Nolan highly enough!”
