Family is in the Foundation
We are painters by trade, but at our foundation, we are a family business. From our founder, Kevin Nolan, and his children, to the many siblings, fathers and sons, and extended family members who have worked on our crews over the years, that sense of family has always been at the heart of Nolan Painting, and it’s a big part of what makes our company strong.
Nolan Painting is among the largest family-owned businesses in Greater Philadelphia according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. Kevin Nolan started Nolan Painting in 1979 while studying at Villanova University. His brother-in-law, Jack McLaughlin, was the first employee of Nolan Painting. Since then, there have been many family ties at Nolan Painting, and many long time employees have grown to be like family.
Kevin began Nolan Painting with a commitment to doing the right thing, making customers happy, and treating employees like family. Kevin has since retired, but those values are still at the heart of everything we do. Kevin’s sons, Chris and Kevin C., and his daughters, Colleen and Claire, are all involved in the business, but the Nolan family is just one piece of the bigger picture. Beyond blood, the management team has grown into family, each with more than 20 years, and several with more than 30 years, spent as the drivers of what makes Nolan Painting great.
With such deep connections, Nolan Painting has long been, and will continue to be, a community-minded family business with strong values. At Nolan Painting, we constantly discuss our shared values, including putting people before profits, treating customers right, and investing in our community.
Current Family Connections at Nolan Painting
Over the years, Nolan Painting has become a place where family ties run strong. Presently, we have siblings Luke and Will, AJ and Nick, and Kevin and Angel, the Nolan siblings, cousins Chris and Josue, and uncle and nephew Juan and Jose.
Why It Matters
We’re proud to have built an environment where people stay for the long run, grow their careers, and often encourage their own family members to join the team.
Mamadou, a valued team member at Nolan Painting since he joined in 2014, retired this past fall, but father and son duo, Mamadou and Nouhoum, were customer favorites and Nouhoum is now carving his own career path at Nolan Painting. 
Mamadou shared that the biggest reflection of his experience for Nolan Painting is that he encouraged his son to work here too. And the virtues that make Mamadou great, including a smile that would light up any room, is clearly recognized in his son as well.
