Protecting Surfaces

Preparation to any type of home improvement job is essential for getting long lasting results. Not only is it the most important step, but prep work tends to be the most time consuming part of the job.

As experienced house painters in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Nolan Painting strives to be the best when prepping and painting a customer’s home.

Our mission is to protect surfaces and by doing so we may suggest to our customers that certain projects must first be power washed before we paint.

2 Types of Power Washing Methods:
Pressure Washing & Soft Washing

Power Washing removes surface materials like dirt, mud, mildew, mold, grime and other contaminants from the exterior features of your house by using specialized equipment. At Nolan Painting we offer two different types of power washing methods: pressure washing and soft washing.

Pressure Washing

Our pressure washing process includes using a special powerful hose with high pressure and low volume. Water and a biodegradable cleaning solution are used to blast away the dirt, mold, mildew, stains and loose paint. Loose paint is of a particular concern because paints chips from houses built before 1979 may have lead. We need to contain and clean up thoroughly all paint chips. So sometimes we might scrape the house first to remove the loose paint prior to pressure washing. Or we may decide to use a soft-wash method. This can be discussed with your estimator. It is best to hire a professional power washer and skilled painting company like Nolan Painting to handle the pressure washing application in order to avoid damaging you or your property. Due to the force of the pressure washing, we recommend applying it only to hard, exterior surfaces.

The Best Areas for Pressure Washing

  • Concrete areas like sidewalks and pathways
  • Fences
  • Decks
  • Driveways
  • Patios
  • Pathways/Sidewalks

Some of the more popular items we clean include but are not limited to:

  • Traditional Wood, Stucco, Brick and Vinyl Siding
  • Cedar Shingle Restoration
  • Deck, patio and outdoor furniture maintenance and restoration
  • Walkways

Soft Washing

Soft washing uses low, non-destructive pressure and special nozzles combined with a biodegradable solution that removes outdoor elements, such as mold, algae, pollen, dirt, moss and other stains without damaging surfaces on your home or killing your plants.

Protective coatings on the surfaces of your exterior home were obviously made to withstand the harsh, outdoor elements. However, they can be chipped away by power washing methods like pressure washing. But with soft washing you don’t have to worry about your paint chipping. Its low pressure, high volume, process is ideal for cleaning your home in between paint jobs to keep the house looking fresh without damaging the previous paint job.

The application of soft wash has become the safest and most effective way to clean fungus and algae growths on various different surfaces. You’ll see the best clean results when applied to:

  • vinyl and wood siding
  • stucco
  • masonry surfaces
  • pavers
  • concrete

It is highly recommended that you use a professional, experienced power washing company like Nolan Painting to complete the soft washing process on your house. The cleaning solutions and dirty removal process are hazardous enough to require professional attention.
